Hello Tribute Artist Fans! Today I'm here to tell you about a beautiful lady named Marilyn Barbara from Italy!

Marilyn Monroe impersonators live all over the world which is a tribute to the lasting staying power and impact that Marilyn Monroe had on the lives of people living in her time and the lives of younger people whom only know her from her films and photographs.

Marilyn Barbara is one such young lady, born in Milan, Italy, who has been inspired by the real Marilyn. Like many, Marilyn Barbara attended a University. While there she sang in the chorus. She said: "....all my friends said to me that I appeared to be like Marilyn. I thought I looked like Norma Jeane because I had the same hair color as her during her early career. I became curious and started to see all her movies and noticed that I did have a likeness to Marilyn."

But, like so many Marilyn impersonators there are early signs that a person has the ability to mimic her character. Marilyn Barbara reported that she "studied dance and song as a child and even started using Chanel No. 5 when she was 15 years old." She said, "I even have the same voice as Marilyn when she sings. All this was pretty scary but, I got up the courage to dye my hair diamond platinum blonde."

Marilyn Barbara reported that, "I began to sing the songs drawn from the Marilyn's films and I looked for a costume-designer that made me clothes to measure. After some months, I left for Sanremo, during the famous festival of the Italian song. Those seven days there changed my life. It was filled with photography, interviews for the radio, television, and journalists. I have appeared on many television shows, since."

"Two years now have swiftly passed and I am very confident doing Marilyn. I have created my own show in which I sing, dance, and interpret Marilyn's songs from her films."

I asked Marilyn Barbara for a listing of some of her "favorite" Marilyn preferences and she told me that she likes, "the colors, black, beige, and white." Her favorite male actors are "James Stewart and Cary Grant." Favorite film: "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." Favorite song: "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Bye, Bye, Baby." Marilyn Barbara uses Chanel No. 5 and likes yellow roses. She enjoys the Argentine Tango dance. Her professed dream is to: "visit the places where Marilyn lived and worked and to travel and meet new friends."

Oggi sono qui per parlarvi di una meravigliosa ragazza italiana che si chiama Marilyn Barbara..Le sosia impersonator di Marilyn Monroe vivono in tutto il mondo ed è un tributo agli ultimi anni di vita e all'impatto che Marilyn ha avuto sulla vita delle persone che vivevano al suo tempo e sui giovani che la conoscono solo attraverso i suoi films e le sue fotografie: Marilyn Barbara è una di queste ragazze.

Nata a Milano, in Italia ,è stata ispirata dalla vera Marilyn.
Come molti Marilyn Barbara frequentava l'Università e cantava nel coro.
Lei racconta: "Quando mi capitava di cantare, tutti i miei amici ed amiche mi dicevano che sembravo Marilyn. Io rispondevo che forse assomigliavo a Norma Jean, perchè avevo lo stesso colore di capelli che aveva lei all'inizio della sua carriera.
Mi incuriosì la somiglianza e incominciai a guardare i suoi films e a notare quali erano le somiglianze con Marilyn.
Le somiglianze con Marilyn non erano solo fisiche, ma mi supportava l'idea che soprattutto la mimica e il carattere erano molto simili."

Marilyn Barbara racconta che studiava danza e cantava sin da bambina e che aveva incominciato ad usare molto presto Chanel n.5 da quando aveva 15 anni.
Lei racconta:" Mi accorsi di avere la stessa melodia e lo stesso tono di voce di Marilyn quando cantavo.
Tutto ciò all'inizio mi spaventò, ma poi presi coraggio e mi tinsi i capelli biondo platino."

Marilyn Barbara racconta :" Incominciai a cantare le canzoni tratte dai films di Marilyn, e cercai una costumista che mi confezionò su misura gli abiti di scena di Marilyn .Dopo alcuni mesi, partii per Sanremo , durante il famoso festival della canzone italiana.

Quei 7 giorni cambiarono la mia vita!Ero tutto il giorno impegnata con fotografie, interviste alla radio, alla televisione e con i giornalisti.Sono persino apparsa in vari programmi televisivi!
Sono trascorsi molto velocemente due anni e dopo lungo studio interpreto molto meglio Marilyn:
ho creato uno spettacolo nel quale canto live accompagnata al pianoforte,danzo e interpreto le canzoni di Marilyn tratte dai migliori films"
Ho chiesto a Marilyn Barbara di stilare una lista di sue preferenze e lei mi ha riferito che preferisce:
- colori: nero-beige e bianco
-attori preferiti: James Stewart e Cary Grant
-Film preferito :"Gli uomini preferiscono le bionde"
-Canzoni preferite: " Diamonds are a girl's best friends" e
"Bye,bye baby"

Hello Marilyn Tribute Artists Fans, Well, I was pleasantly surprised this week when I received an e-mail from Italy. Back in Danamo's Digest Issue Number 70 on July 11, 2004, I highlighted Marilyn Barbara from Italy. I did not have much information about her and just a few photos. But, I thought it was important to mention her as I know of no other Marilyn Monroe impersonator working in Italy. Marilyn Barbara highlighted that issue of Danamo's Digest on her personal website. I am most proud and honored that she did this. In a follow up report, I will show you her website. So, I have written back to Marilyn Barbara in Italy and asked her to provide me more background information about her activities over the past 15 months so that I can report back to our loyal readers about how Marilyn is doing in Italy! Marilyn Barbara has great physical resemblance to Marilyn Monroe. Here is one of her press photos! So, I shall patiently await hearing back from Marilyn Barbara and hope that I can bring you an update report before the end of the year. This is a busy week for me! As I continue to prepare this article for you I am also packing my bags for my trip to Hawaii to make an appearance as Marilyn! What excitement! And, I am equally excited because I have been exchanging information and photographs with Barbara Lolli from Italy who is known as Marilyn Barbara! I first highlighted her in July 2004 in Danamo's Digest #70. Then, on November 13, 2005 I received an update from Marilyn Barbara and posted it into Digest #139. I asked Marilyn Barbara to participate in an interview with me so that I could bring you her answers to my '15 Questions.'I am happy to reply that Marilyn Barbara and I had a great interview and I received more photos of her as Marilyn.
Amy Heart: Hello again, Marilyn Barbara. I'm happy that I can provide you with a third article here at Danamo's Digest. I am sure our readers are interested in your Marilyn performances in Italy.
Marilyn Barbara: Hello, Amy. I'm thrilled to be contacted by you for this third article in Danamo's Digest. I am most happy to answer your questions.
AH: Tell us, when did you first start to perform as Marilyn Monroe.
MB: Well, Amy, I first started to do Marilyn Monroe performances in the year 2002.
AH:Can you recall what your first performance was?
MB: Oh, yes! My first Marilyn performance was at the Venice Casino during the carnival. It was most enjoyable and I was so happy to do it as Marilyn Monroe.
AH:Was it difficult for you to learn how to impersonate Marilyn?
MB: Oh, no! I would say that it was very easy for me to research the life of Marilyn Monroe and incorporate her real life facts into my performances. My father gave me a Marilyn Monroe songbook for my birthday. I studied all of her songs from that book. I also, studied her photographs and watched all her films to learn how to impersonate her image and style. I studied theatrical-costume designing to learn how her dresses were made. I practiced all her songs many times to get her singing voice down exactly as Marilyn sang herself.
AH: How many Marilyn costumes do you own?
MB: I own 17 replica costumes of Marilyn!
AH: Do you have a favorite costume?
MB: I think I must say that I have a few favorite costumes. First is the white halter dress Marilyn wore in the "Seven Year Itch." I also like the black dress Marilyn wore to the premiere of Arthur Miller's 1956 play, "A View from the Bridge." Another favorite costume is the fuchsia dress that Marilyn wore in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." And, the transparent costume she wore in "Some Like It Hot" is another of my favorites!
AH: What seems to be the most requested Marilyn dress?
MB: Well, Amy, by far, more people request the "Seven Year Itch" dress than any other.
AH: Marilyn Barbara, where in Italy have you performed? Have you performed in any other country?
MB: Amy, I perform all over Italy. But, my most requested cities are Milan, Rome, Venice, and San Remo. I have also had the opportunity to perform in Slovenia at the Casino La Perla and in Switzerland at some hotels. I have also been invited to perform as Marilyn during a passenger ship cruise. That was most fun to do!
AH: What are your favorite songs you like to sing as Marilyn?
MB: I would say that I have three favorite Marilyn songs. They are, "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," "A Fine Romance," and "My Heart Belongs to Daddy."
AH: How do you start out your performances?
MB: My shows start out with a dark stage. Then, a ray of light illuminates me and I begin singing and dancing for the audience.
AH: What Marilyn songs do you usually put into your act?
MB: I have some standard songs for my show. They are, "Bye Bye, Baby," "Diamond's Are a Girl's Best Friend," "Kiss," from the "River of No Return," "I Wanna Be Loved By You," "Happy Birthday, Mr. President," "I'm Gonna File My Claim," "Some Like It Hot," "A Fine Romance," and "My Heart Belongs to Daddy."
AH: Marilyn Barbara, have you done any film or television work?
MB: Yes, Amy! I did a short film for Italy's Rai television network (Channel 1). Sometimes I work for Rai TV (Channel 3) and Mediaset's Channels 4 and 5. I also have worked for Italia TV Channel 1.
AH: How many of Marilyn's films have you seen and do you identify with any of them?
MB: Oh, yes. I have seen all of Marilyn's film. I think I prefer to identity personally with 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' because I would like to marry a millionaire!!!
AH: When a corporate client engages you is there one special song that they seem to ask for?
MB: Yes. Corporate clients like the song and dance routine from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."
AH: During private engagements, what routine seems to be the most popular?
MB: That's easy. Almost every client wants me to sing "Happy Birthday, Mr. ---." And, they ask me to wear the white "Seven Year Itch' costume.
AH: As a performer are they certain works that you are most proud about?
MB: Yes. I am proud of my impersonations of Marilyn Monroe and I am proud of my work as a painter of Marilyn portraits.
AH: Please tell us about your work as a painter.
MB: Well, I am an artist. I paint portraits of Marilyn. I exhibit my works of art in San Remo at the "Villa Nobel." I have an exhibition opening on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at 4:30 p.m. You can see my paintings of Marilyn on my website by clicking on the link called: "Le Opere D'Arte Di Lolli." AH: Is there something special you would like to say about your personal relationship with the image of Marilyn?
MB: Well, Amy, I think that I should be an actress in Marilyn films. I would like the critics to say of me; "That girl is Marilyn's reincarnation!"

Salve cari lettori di Tribute Artist' Scene! Questa è una settimana molto impegnativa per me. Sto continuando a preparare questa intervista mentre preparo i miei bagagli per una crociera alle Haway. Oh,come sono agitata! E sono ugualmente agitata perché ho ricevuto nuove notizie e fotografie da Barbara Lolli dall'Italia ,dove è conosciuta come Barbara Marilyn. La prima volta che ho scritto di lei è stato in luglio 2004 nel n.70 di Danamo's Digest poi il 13 novembre 2005, ho ricevuto le risposte da Marilyn Barbara e ho scritto l"articolo nel n.139 di Danamo's Digest; ho domandato a Marilyn Barbara di partecipare ad una nuova intervista così che ho potuto inviarle le mie 15 domande.
Sono molto contenta delle risposte che Barbara mi ha dato ,ho realizzato una grande intervista e ho anche ricevuto molte sue foto come Marilyn.

Amy : Quale è stata la tua prima performance in qualità di Marilyn?
Barbara Marilyn: La mia prima apparizione come Marilyn è avvenuta nell'anno 2002.
Amy: -Ricordi dove si è svolta la tua prima performance?
Barbara Marilyn : -La mia prima performance è stata al Casinò di Venezia durante il Carnevale. E' stata molto divertente ed io sono stata molto soddisfatta di aver interpretato Marilyn.
Amy : - E stato difficile per te imparare ad interpretare Marilyn?
Barbara Marilyn : Oh , no ! Direi che è stato molto facile per me interpretare la vita di Marilyn Monroe nelle mie performances. Mio padre mi regalò gli spartiti delle canzoni di Marilyn in occasione di un mio compleanno: allora mi impegnai a studiare tutte le canzoni tratte dai suoi spartiti; inoltre studiai tutte le sue fotografie e vidi tutti i suoi films per imparare come interpretare la sua immagine e soprattutto il suo stile. Osservai attentamente i suoi costumi per imparare come erano stati creati.Ho ripetuto molte volte le sue canzoni sino a raggiungere la stessa tonalità sensuale che usava Marilyn nel suo canto.
Amy: Quanti costumi ti sei fatta creare su misura?
Barbara Marilyn : Abbiamo creato con la costumista 17 costumi simili a quelli di Marilyn.
Amy: Hai un costume che tu preferisci indossare rispetto ad altri?
Barbara Marilyn : Penso di avere molti costumi che preferisco indossare: il primo fra tutti è il costume bianco che Marilyn indossò nel film "Quando la moglie è in vacanza"; ma amo molto anche il vestito che Marilyn indossò alla prima della commedia di Artur Miller nel 1956 " A wiew from the bridge"; un altro costume al quale sono legata in modo particolare è l'abito che Marilyn indossò in "Gli uomini preferiscono le bionde" e' per finire, l'abito trasparente che indossò in "A qualcuno piace caldo" è un altro dei miei preferiti!!!
Amy: Quale ti sembra essere il costume preferito e più richiesto?
Barbara Marilyn : Bene, Amy da sempre viene richiesto da più persone l'abito bianco di "Quando la moglie è in vacanza": più di ogni altro!!!
Amy : Marilyn Barbara dove ti esibisci in Italia ? Ti sei esibita anche in altri paesi?
Barbara Marilyn : Amy, mi sono esibita un po' in tutta Italia, ma le città dove sono stata più apprezzata sono, Milano, Roma,Venezia e Sanremo; ho avuto anche l'opportunità di esibirmi in Slovenia, al casinò "La Perla" e in Svizzera in concerto con il mio pianista e mi sono esibita come Marilyn durante una crociera nel Mediterraneo.E' stato un onore e un divertimento farlo!!!
Amy : Quali sono le canzoni da te preferite?
Barbara Marilyn : Le canzoni da me preferite sono tre : Diamonds are a girl's best friends" , "A fine romance" e "My heart belongs to daddy"
Amy : In che modo inizi il tuo spettacolo?
Barbara Marilyn: I miei spettacoli iniziano con il palco tutto buio, poi un raggio di luce mi illumina ed io incomincio a cantare e a danzare per il pubblico.
Amy: Quali canzoni più frequentemente canti?
Barbara Marilyn: "Bye bye Baby"; "Diamonds are a girl's best friend"; "Kiss"; "I wanna be loved by you"; "Happy birthday Mr. President" ; "I'm gonna file my claim" ; "Some like it hot"; "A fine romance" e "My heart belongs to Daddy".
Amy: Marilyn Barbara hai interpretato qualche film o lavori alla televisione?
Barbara Marilyn: Sì, Amy! Ho interpretato un corto per la RAI, canale 1; qualche volta sono stata ospite per la RAI TV, canale tre e per le reti Madiaset,rete quattro, canale 5 ed Italia 1
Amy: Quante volte ti sei identificata in un film di Marilyn?
Barbara Marilyn: Oh, sì! Mi sono identificata in tutti i film di Marilyn, ma penso di preferire "Gentlemen prefer blondes" poiché ....vorrei sposare un milionario!!!!
Amy : Quando ti esibisci ti chiedono una canzone speciale che piace di più?
Barbara Marilyn: Sì , piacciono molto le canzoni e i balli dal film "Gli uomini preferiscono le bionde" !!!
Amy: Durante gli spettacoli privati cosa è più richiesto?
Barbara Marilyn : Questo è facile: chiedono sempre di cantare Happy Birthday Mr.... e mi chiedono di indossare l'abito bianco di "Quando la moglie è in vacanza" !!!
Amy : Come attrice hai qualche performance di cui sei orgogliosa?
Barbara Marilyn: Sì,sono orgogliosa delle mie interpretazioni di Marilyn ma sono anche orgogliosa delle mie opere d'arte come pittrice di ritratti di Marilyn.
Amy: Per favore parlaci di te stessa come pittrice.
Barbara Marilyn: Dipingo i ritratti di Marilyn con molto onore .Ho esposto le mie opere d'arte a Villa Nobel a Sanremo : vernissage mercoledì 1 marzo 2006.
